Nairobi Excursions

Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National park is a unique ecosystem by being the only protected area in the world close to a capital city. The park is located only 7 km from Nairobi city center and is home to Four of the Big Five (lion, buffalo, leopard and rhino) among others with over 400 bird species.

Sheldrick Elephant’s Orphanage

This orphanage is located near Nairobi National Park and is a focal point for Elephant Conservation. Elephant calves orphaned by poaching are brought here from all over the country. They receive extremely specialized treatment here and literally receive personal care 24 hours a day from highly dedicated staff who become surrogate mothers to the calves. Eventually, the calves are moved to Tsavo where they are carefully reintroduced into wild herds.

N.B: The center is open to the public each morning from 11 am to 12 pm

Karen Blixen Estates

Karen estate is the former home of Lady Karen Von Blixen, author of the book“Out of Africa”. The house has been preserved by the National Museums of Kenya to the time of Lady Karen‘s residence. The surrounding area, now called Karen Estates, was the site of her
coffee plantation. Tour her lovely home and garden which opens up to a beautiful view of the Ngong Hills.

Nairobi Animal Orphanage

This is the oldest animal orphanage in Kenya. It was established in 1964 as a refuge and rehabilitation center for wild animals found abandoned or injured throughout Kenya, allowing them time to recuperate. It gives the visitors a closer view of animals that they may not easily see on the small tour of the national park. The animals seen include lions, cheetah, leopards, monkeys, among others.

Giraffe Center

Founded in 1972 by Leslie-Melville’s, the Giraffe Center is a sanctuary for the endangered Rothschild giraffe which had lost its natural environment to agriculture. You will have the rare treat of hand-feeding these gentle giants facing them eye-to-eye from an elevated viewing platform.

Bomas of Kenya

Bomas is a homestead and just 10 kilometers from the City Centre reflecting Kenya’s cocktail of cultures depicted in a traditional village lifestyle. You will be treated to a rich traditional music and dance show at this cultural center.

Carnivore Experience

We recommend lunch/dinner at the Carnivore which is famous for the succulent stew and barbecue dishes of game meat.
